A very comfortable early Victorian deep buttoned Chaise Circa. 1860 on ring turned Rosewood legs with original castors. This Chaise has a gentle recline and is fully sprung over the entire length of the piece. Sublimely comfortable. Completely stripped to the frame, re-glued, pegged and screwed so guaranteed for 40 years. Fully sprung seat using individual copper cone springs with soft hair and wool build up. Exquisitely upholstered to include a soft lumber support in the lower back to ensure comfort.
This Chaise would have been made originally towards the beginning of “The Age of Comfort”, a period during which the Victorian furniture makers of the day pioneered furniture making and traditional upholstery using horsehair and lambswool. This period produced some of the most comfortable furniture that was available and set the standard for cabinetmakers and upholsterers of the day to aspire to. The methods and materials used then are the same methods and materials we use today to ensure we create the same comfort. The reception felt when sitting in a truly traditional upholstered armchair is unrivalled, hence our promise of unrivalled comfort that lasts a lifetime.
